Wood Board Trifecta.

I see a lot of significant boards pass through Stewart surfboards. From custom Cervantes painted Stewarts to really unique classics and neo-retros. But hanging on the wall right now is an almost perfect trifecta of San Clemente area greats. A 9’5” Dale Velzy, multi redwood, cedar and balsa, Bill Stewart’s 10’ 21 stringer and a 9’ 6” Phil Edwards model Hobie. Three generations of top notch shapers, all three boards crafted within 10 miles of each other right here in San Clemente. Wood boards are the epitome of shaping craft.

World Champ Julie Whitgon's new board

Julie Whitgon stopped by today, fresh from her recent 1st place win at the 2010 Duke’s Ocean Festival to pick up her new winter board. Julie asked for a mid range board that paddled well and would handle big winter swells. Bill hand shaped a unique 7’3” E-type heavily modded fun shape. The board has beautiful curves, and a nice pulled nose. I see a lot of surfboards everyday, and this one really grabbed my attention. Bill is currently working on a new performance based fun board, diverting from the standard “egg” template. Also look for a new version of the ever popular Hydro Hull for 2011.
