Scott Brandenburg wins 2009 NSSA National title riding 9'0 Colin McPhillips pro

One of the latest addition to the Stewart Surfboards team Scott Brandenburg takes home the 2009 Open Men’s Longboard Title.

This is Brandenburg’s first National Title and first year riding Stewart Surfboards.

In addition to Brandenburg winning the title, our team rider Matt Elias Calles took third place, making 2 out of the top 3. Matt was also riding the Colin Pro.

Stewart team riders - 2 out of top 3 at the PLA Yakult HB Pro

Stewart Team riders Colin McPhillips places second and Steven Newton gets third. Colin took out former World Champion Phil Rajzman. In Steven Newton’s quater-final, he beat the winner of the last PLA event in Ventura Taylor Jensen in a man on man semi-final.

California (Sunday, June 21, 2009) – Ned Snow (Waialua, HI), 23, won the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Longboard Qualifying Series (LQS) 1-Star Yakult HB Pro today over former ASP World Longboard Champion Colin McPhillips (San Clemente, CA), 34, in two-to-three foot surf at South Huntington Beach Pier.

Surfer Magazine Bill Stewart Shaper profile

Behind the Brand: By the time Bill Stewart moved to California from Florida in 1971, he was already a respected surfer, artist, and craftsman. Those talents earned him a steady gig at the world famous Hobie factory in Capistrano Beach, where he went to work with Rick James and Terry Martin. Working in the biggest design hub on the coast, he was surrounded by an abundance of surfing legends that ran in and out of the labyrinth of shaping bays, and it wouldn’t take long for Stewart to become one of them.

S.F.K Dave Doman & Bill Stewart art collaboration

While in Utah, visiting his newly born grand-daughter, Bill Stewart took time out to work with Celtek art director Dave Doman on an art piece/surfboard for pro snowboarder Erik “the Mule” Lines, Bill’s son-in-law.

SCHS Surf Team Spotlight: Al Brandenburg

Judging by is immense amount of career wins, intense training schedule, heavy involvement as a city lifeguard-not to mention his dedication to San Clemente High’s varsity surfing, swimming and water polo teams-you’d think there were actually two Scott Brandenburgs.

As it turns out there is, sort of. Scott has a twin named Steve, and while we’re not exactly sure of his lookalike’s super powers, we’re pretty sure he’s equally competitive.
