Karen Williams of Carlsbad, Calif., captured both the Masters Division (age 35 & up) final and Masters Division Bonus Pool with an exciting win over Jeannette Prince of Cardiff by the Sea, Calif. Williams takes home $2,100 this weekend including $900 for the event win and $1,200 for the Masters Division Series Championship. Williams hadn't planned to surf competitions this year until she heard about the Margaritaville Longboard Open Series opener in Oceanside this June.

Williams won that event and following another strong finish in Malibu decided to compete in Santa Cruz. It was a decision that paid off. "I'm so excited to win this event," said Williams. "I was petrified this morning when I saw the big waves since I don't really surf big waves. I got off to a slow start but I was so stoked by this event that I guess I saved my best for last."
